Goran, what was your most embarrassing moment on court?
I remember it well – it was at Brighton in 2000. I was playing really badly, I was about to have a nervous breakdown and I’d smashed all my racquets. Like an idiot, I ended up having to abandon the match (Ed: in the second round against Hyung-Taik Lee).
What was your worst excuse for missing practice?
Actually, when I didn’t want to go I just said “enough!” and stayed at home. It was as simple as that, I didn’t need to make up a story. I told my staff. They asked me why, and I just said “Because I don’t want to” (laughs).
What was your craziest night out on tour?
There were so many of them! You know, when you’re on the circuit, you need to clear your head, do something that’s not tennis. I loved partying. I had some really interesting evenings (we tell him about Ivan Ljubicic, who told us his craziest night out was with Ivanisevic). Yeah, it’s possible! I’m not surprised. I remember that night with Ivan.
Who did you dream of kissing when you were a teenager?
Jeez… No, I really don’t remember.
Are you jealous of another player and why?
Every player has strong and weak points. You just have to deal with it. I’ve never been jealous of anyone on circuit.
What was the biggest lie you ever told a journalist?
I never lie! My press conferences were usually pretty funny, because I said what I thought. Sometimes that wasn’t the right thing to do, but that’s just the way I am!
What was your most stupid nickname?
"Crazy horse "! I have no idea where it came from. Petr Korda invented that stupid nickname.
What is your worst habit on court?
Throwing too many racquets, having too many tantrums, smashing too many racquets. But that’s the way I am. I don’t want to change who I am or how I do things. I can’t.
What is the most embarrassing song on your MP3 player?
There are so many of them! I have friends who are singers – they put songs on my MP3 player but I don’t listen to them. So there must be plenty of embarrassing songs but I don’t know which ones.
If you could be a footballer, who would you be?
I’d like to be part of the Real Madrid team. Number 9, why not. I could score goals and run all over the place.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done to attract a girl?
Sometimes to attract someone, you need to lie to get what you want. So the craziest thing I did to attract someone was to lie.
Who is the person that you never had the guts to talk to, either on the circuit or elsewhere?
I’ve always been a bit reserved, a bit shy. So in the beginning, I was pretty quiet. But then, when I felt confident with everyone, I talked with all the players.
